What are benefits of getting the larger mm wires?

In general, internal construction is better and the increased thickness of the outer shell helps extend longevity or resist breakdown of the wires from engine heat. Some claim less resistance without compromising on "full" suppression of RFI and EMI emissions, which is critical for today's cars and their computer controlled systems. Failure to properly control/limit RFI/EMI emissions can affect your car's computer systems. The increased use of computer controlled systems in today's cars, even race cars, is the main reason you do not see any solid core SP wires being made or offered anymore. 10mm wires are considered overkill for a daily driver and the internal construction is typically the same as a performance 8.5mm wire, the thicker insulating jacket is for extreme heat protection and/or extreme-output ignition systems. Other than that, SP wires are just a conduit or conductor for the spark, so there is no need to over analyze your choice.
Hope this helps.
