Tommy -

This definitely sounds like a Secondary Ignition Problem (plugs,wires,coil pack).It will happen more when the car is under load, such as going up a hill, getting into the throttle, etc.
I had a car do this several years ago after putting new wires on it.it turned out that one of the new wires was DOA, but it drove me nuts.This kind of thing can also cause problems with your Cat. by dumping unburned, and very very hot fuel into your exhaust.On the car I mentioned, it got to where the exhaust manifold was glowing cherry red and clogged the cat from melting it.
