I too have had this issue a couple of times with my srt-4. If it does not crank right away, i back off on the key so the pcm powers down. I wait about 5 NYC seconds. Then I try again and wala!
By the way, these cars especialy the GT looks like a great old time get away car. I suggest you dont use it to rob a bank though.
