There's a thin chrome flat background around each letter and the letters themselves seem to be red shiny 3D plastic. It's hard to see on my friends convertible but he's had the "GT" "Turbo - High Output" and both "PT Cruiser" side emblems done in the red/chrome lettering.
They also do lettering and logo's for seats that look exactly like stitches, but there heated onto the fabric.
