Well, you have a very good and common question with our "modifying oriented" PT bunch. First, let me just say that I don't think there will be any single mod that you'll end up with without going further in the handling department. But, to answer your question, I'd suggest looking at a few things. The most cost effective in my opinion would probably be going with lowering springs. The resulting lower center of gravity greatly improves handling. However, lowering springs put more stress on your existing struts and shocks causing them to wear out quicker plus the car will have more bounce especially in the rear which affects handling negatively. Brand wise, I've only used the Eibach ProKit and liked what it did. Remember, this is really a two-part process, lowering springs then new struts/shocks (be sure you upgrade beyond the stock spec). However, the better upgrade would be a set of coilovers in the front and adjustable shocks/springs in the rear. The best that I know of would be the german made KW Variant system. KW are the guys that make the Mopar Stage suspension upgrade kits. I have the KW's and love them. Not the most cost effective but the most effective handling mod.

Secondly, I'd recommend better tires. I use the Yokohama Parada Spec2 which have excellent grip on dry pavement.

Thirdly, I'd go with a strut tower brace. I only have experience with the BTG/PT-Tuning one and really like it. It made a noticable difference. This is the least expensive mod of the bunch.

Fourthly, I'd add upgraded front and new rear anti-sway bars. I use the Eibach with great success.

Finally, I'd find a nice curvey road to further hone your driving skills. This is free unless you get too aggressive. One tip is to take the play out of the suspension immediately before entering a corner.

I hope these ideas are helpful. I've enjoyed doing all of them to my PT cruisers.
