Back in the day, and this really dates me, the 50's, I had a 1941 Ford coupe with a full house flathead in it. There was a speed shop in Conyningham that would punch louvers for 50 cents apiece so I saved up and got $10.00 worth, big money in those days. 20 louvers. The worse mistake I ever made, until I installed a drain plate underneath to prevent water runing onto the flathead. I was convinced they allowed the engine to run cooler. They sure looked neat!!!! As do these. Its a look I've always been partial to. ptprice

My first car - a 1950 Chevy - had 60 louvres in the hood - 4 rows of 15 - looked good.

It appears that ALL or MOST of the braceing on the underside of the hood was removed to install the louvers and then not welded back in place. Makes for a VERY weak hood. Simply opening and closeing the hood would create a buttocks tightening adventure every time you did it. There have been several PTs with louvered hoods done over the years, but all that I'm aware of had most (if not all) of the bracing put back in place when all was said and done.

I'd have to see the underside of that hood to even consider buying it. I love louvers but a hood without bracing is a disaster waiting to happen.

I have to differ on this guys. The rounded shape of the hood will be plenty stiff enough as long as the outer edge bracing is intact. Given the louver location., I see no reason to have removed it. Only the center bracing would need to be removed. I would way more worried about how much prep work will be needed to get ready to paint. Can't tell with a dull finish. Not saying It's not smooth. Just can't tell.
