Looking for some engine cosmetic "bling"? I recommend the aluminum strut bar you can polish.

Yes, perhaps it wont have much effect. My daughters 07 convertible does have some very slight body wiggle from 0 to 20mph, so maybe it will help (shrugging shoulders)

Your discribed problem, check the suspension, bushings and also the dampeners.

Railroad crossings are the worst for the convertible PT you can really feel the body flexing.
The best solution is a tubular roll bar. Or a special 4-6 point solid custom made strut bar.
None of the strut bars ever made for retail sales for the PT Cruiser
were really designed to work despite the claims.

+1

While Nitro's disbelief in strut bars for the PT Cruiser is not supported by any measurable data, I agree that checking the suspension is likely the best place to start. Check the tires, wheel bearings and alignment too. Stock PT Cruiser actually handle pretty well considering they are compact station wagons.

The strut bars for the PT Cruiser have become very hard to find. I recently bought one just because it was for sale. Also, the most common type of strut bar out there for the PT Cruiser is the one from Freedom Design. If there was a strut bar or "brace" that improved PT handling, it would surely not be this one. Back in the heyday of PT mania, there were several models of more heavily made braces for the PT. But these are now extremely hard to find.

There are other aftermarket accessories still available that may help PT Cruiser handling. These include lower springs, stiff bushings and heavier front and rare sway bars among others. But again, a PT should handle just fine as is for regular driving. Some of the more common reasons a PT Cruiser does not handle well are worn suspension parts, bad tires, wheel bearings and/or just a need for an alignment.

It just really bugs you so much that I won't give my DATA out so you continue to make out like I am just another DIY schmuck that does not know a bean hill about Performance parts and vehicles?

I have posted much information about well designed strut bars that actauly work and warned about the strut bars around the internet for PT Cruisers.

It is NOT common on any vehicle forums members to post testing and DATA evaluating suspension parts unless those members are vendor/manufactures offering a product of theirs. Even than it is mostly in the form of a sales pitch or hype favoring their parts.

As for hard document data.....
Wake up...people who do R&D seldom post their general testing data results because than you get the debates about DELTAS and how the test were conducted. No one is ever satisfied. Seldom almost never will you see testing DATA or detailed testing method information posted if anyone or company are contemplating offering a product. Why this is so hard for some members on this PT cruiser forum to understand this concept is beyond me and my guess others as well?

For the PT Cruiser strut bars, myself along with one of my business pardoners who both of us have developed performance suspension products over the years did basic fundamental preliminary testing on a PT Cruiser regarding strut bars.
There was a functional strut bar design that came out of the testing that will work both front and rear for the hardtop model PT Cruiser and the front only for a convertible PT Cruisers.
However if and when he decides to offer them I couldn't tell you.
A few of us have tested the market (FES) for anything new having to do with a PT Cruiser for new products and there is no more market! The day has come and long gone.

The average cost from a Performance shop that specializes in complete chassi building for track or off road vehicles to design and build a true functional front strut bar for a PT Cruiser is about $500.00 - $700.00.

These threads about strut bars and PT cruisers have actually come up a few time on this forum and unless people actually do some learning about chassis suspension upgrades and learn for themselves how and why things work we will most likely continue to read the same OLD RESPONSES in the future?
