2003 PT Cruiser GT Automatic

Does anyone have a Stage 1 PCM for sale?

I went on the FWD Performance website but they don't have any contact info listed.

i suggest you look on ebay, there's a few listed. your best bet is to get a stock unit from a 04-05 turbo, and then send it to SYKES ecu tuning for the stage 1 programming.

Thank you for getting back to me so soon.

Does the 2004-2005 PCM work for the 2003 GT?
Also, the 2003 injectors were upgraded in the newer models. Do you think that I should change the fuel injectors?

Yes, you should change the injectors because the tune in the S1 was programmed with those as being the injectors to use. In the past, when you ordered the S1 kit for an 03 car, it came with the later injectors. Since these were the injectors used as the stock injectors in all turbo PTs from 04 and up, the S1 kits, for all later years, did not include injectors. They were only included with the 03 S1 kits. Will the car run and work with the old ones? Yes, but I would use the injectors Chrysler intended to be used.

The 04-05 pcm cannot be used in an 03, because the 03 used a PCM controlled variable speed cooling fan. It was not used in other years. So if you use an 04 or 05 on the 03, the cooling fan will run at high speed constantly, and the check engine light will be on.

If you send her a core, she only charges $125 for the S1 programming.

you don't need to change your injectors. the purple injectors work just fine.

Well I think it all comes down to what you are doing. Can you get away with using the stock 03 injectors, yes, as I mentioned before. But the tune has been scaled to the larger injectors and to ensure that you are not leaning out at longer periods of WOT, you really should use the correct injectors. They are cheap enough to find used these days. Even the rebuilt ones are not super expensive.

Just like anything you do to the car, there are changes you can make that will work, but are not ideal. Just like running a tire size smaller on the car can be done. It's not ideal because there are consequences such as an incorrect speedo and odometer, but you can do it. The same applies to running the smaller injector. In this case maybe you could run lean under certain situations. You can look at is as risk versus reward. In the case of the tires, the risk is really 0. One can't say the same for the injectors.

there's a 5% difference between the injectors, and the engine management system will compensate to keep the air to fuel ratio where it is programmed to be at by adjusting fuel trims. baloney.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. Maybe it was for the extra 5% safety margin or maybe it was for another reason, but regardless, I would use what Chrysler intended. The original poster can decide for himself what he wants to do.

I would agree with PTGT03 about the injectors.

I would assume if he kept his foot out of it for a bit while fuel trims were learned the injectors would not be needed unless there was also airflow or cam upgrades.

Myckee is there a time where injectors duty cycle is at or above 90%? I could see possibly during start up enrichment as during that time my Ford calls for enough fuel for an AFR of 7.9 to see an actual AFR of 14.xx

Not trying to start a pissing match but thought you really might know. Do you?

in the end, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. however, there's facts and reality vs opinions and emotions. one has empirical evidence, the other, not so much.
