Where in TN? If you're anywhere close to Nashville, there's a great place called Pull-A-Part off Centennial Blvd. I spent many an hour in that yard pulling stuff for all kinds of cars. You can pull up their website and find what cars are in the yard and even get prices. Go to www.pullapart.com and choose your location. Good luck with it.

You are in luck.

Most non-turbo PT Cruiser Engines from 2003 thru 2010 are interchangeable. There are a few small differences in wiring, sensors and possibly manifolds. But if you have your original engine, those items can be swapped out.

And luckily, salvage yards are currently full of PT Cruisers. At many of them, you should not be able to throw a rock without hitting the exact engine you need. I suggest trying one of those Chuzz recommended or one closer to you. U-Pull-It is always my favorite. And all of them should be able to use their parts guide to tell you what engine fits what. Again, most 2003 thru 2010 PT Cruiser engines should work for you. My choice would be a 2004 or a 2008 or later. This avoids a potential half-thrush washer issue that some (not all) 2005 thru 2007 non-turbo PT engines had.

LOL at the thought of trying to remove one from a car on blocks before dragging it through 500 ft of mud and then loading it into a car.

all that arent wrecked are probably there due to overheating so depending what the current engines problem is, why not just fix it?

At the yard I'm talking about, they'll bring a large forklift in once you get things loose and take the engine to your awaiting vehicle.

Yep.

Some of the salvage yards provide large metal A-frames on wheels with chain hoist. Once you get the engine loose, they usually let you drive your pickup onto the yard. Then they take a large forklift as Chuzz described and load it for you.

Of course, if you are a true 6'2" 220 pound stud-puppy (with movie star good looks) and it's just a little four cylinder engine like in a PT, you just pick it up yourself and take it to the front for check out.
