My secret is that I have never washed my car out side. I'm lucky enough to have a three car garage, and pull it in there side ways and wash it there under the cover of shade and little air movement. I also dry them first thing so they don't have time to spot. And always dry with microfiber. And never close the door by the pillars, always by the the door handles. That keeps the acids from your hands off the pillars.

I keep on thinking I am not reading this right. You wash your car in the garage? Other then that, I agree with you, dry first thing and always use the door handle to shut the door. Just in case though, like when the wife is with me even though I told her a million times to shut the door by the handle, I carry quick detailer and a microfiber cloth and do my thing. Pillars look like new!

You did. I wash my car in the garage. It keeps the sun and the air off it. And if it's windy or the sun is coming in I shut the doors partly. It gives me plenty of time to dry it so it doesn't spot. The floor is dry before I get the car dry. It slants perfectly to drain right out. You wouldn't believe the looks I get from the neighbors. But, I've got the nicest, cleanest, detailed car on the block, and have been told so. But, as I said before the trick to those pillars are as I said before. I also do my husbands Mini Cooper S in there too. It's very easy to get them in there to wash them.

You got that right! I've always liked washing and detailing our cars. Have been doing it for years.

mcruz hit the mark right on. that discoloration is created by the surfactants in car washes. Many of them use harsh chemicals that fade the plastic. YOu can apply wax when they are in good condition. however if they are stating to discolor, then wax will do no good. You have to use a paint cleaner. Back to black is for rubber and molded plastic NOT coated plastic. Hope that helps. Gary

Red PT,

Do you have a drain in your garage, where does all the water go,

Nope, no drain. The floor slants perfectly, so the water runs right out of the garage. The floor is dry before I get the car dry, and I live in the desert. Chandler, Arizona. Very dry. I also use a sprayer that has different sprays, such as gentle rain so the water doesn't go everywhere. Which is better for sheeting off anyway. In fact I washed my car just this morning and it wasn't as dry as usual because we're having some left overs from the storm that hit Mexico and Texas a few days ago. So we're getting rain and humidity, YUCK! But, still a much easier job doing it in the garage rather than out in the sun and air.
