Ok, maybe this should be in the wheels forum... but thought I would try here with all the detailing guys first!
I boogered up the chrome on my Dream Cruiser wheel today, by accidently hitting the curb at an angle. It's chipped - maybe a bit more that 1/2 inch wide along the rim, with the chrome starting to peel toward the center of the wheel. As much as I would like to run out and buy a new wheel, it aint gonna happen. In the meantime, what can I do to keep it from peeling more, basically to seal it? OH... ps... anyone know why CarDomain won't let my photo show here? I checked and it's not hidden on their site... ugh... what a day... |

I would suggest going to a body shop or custom wheel shop. From what I understand if the chrome has been fractured or peeled away, it will be difficult to stop it, much less have it look eye appealing. Once moisture is able to get under it, it will spread quickly. I bet you can find some wheels cheap on e bay. Gary

That's what I was hoping to do... seal it somehow to prevent moisture and try to limp through for now, until I get that winning lotto ticket...
I checked Ebay already... no Dream Cruiser wheels... figures. At least the photo is showing again! Thanks.

Short term, cheap and dirty? Clean it, then put clear nail polish on the edge. It may not be able to hold the chrome down, but will seal the edge. This will not fix it, but will slow the inevitable.
