Default Got Keyed? repair pics

I hate to see cars that got keyed, but it happens. This is a job I got in yesterday. The scratch is about 7" long. First thing I did was wet sand it with 3000/ then 2000, then 1500.

I buffed with the high speed using wool, and med cut. Switched to foam yellow fine cut, final with green pad, speed glaze. Once I brought back the shine from were I sanded, I needed to use my artistic skills. using a fine artist brush, I started out with the factory touch up paint. The trick is to use as little paint as possible to fill in the line. Problem with this job was the touch up paint was too light, so I had to tint it a little darker to blend it in. After I tinted it, the results were to my satisfaction. Customer was pleased also because he saved about $500 for not going to a body shop. Gary

Great job Gary. If it's not too personal, what did you charge the customer?

I would have paid to have it re-painted. You can still see the scatch! This should be covered by "vandalism" under his insurance policy.

I charged him $75, he was quoted $650 at the body shop. Keep in mind it was a 89 mini van with 125,000 miles. If you have a late model car that you prize, this is not the route I would suggest. However in some situations. like this one, its a perfect repair. Bottom line he was happy, that is all that matters. In normal lighting, you can hardly see it. I had this under high intensity lights. Oh, I thought this was on a new PT Cruiser.

Good idea for late model cars then.
