There are specialized kits available for machine polishing (using a drill - cord or cordless). Usually comes with a 3" backing plate and a waffle foam pad. Polishing at 900-2800 rpms is the recommended norm. Some use toothpaste to polish the lens and remove the yellowing. Haven't tried this myself, but toothpaste is slightly or is a very fine abrasive. Apply the toothpaste on a dry cloth and polish away. Most that use this process recommend buying "Natural White Extreme" at your local Dollar store, since it is a bit more abrasive than regular toothpaste and will also remove road film. That being said, I would stick to a name brand plastic polish...the results are well known and doesn't cost that much to buy ($5-6 on average).

there are kits available now to remove the haze and then you put a new clearcoat on the lexan plastic lens. I think NAPA or one of the good auto store chains carry it....look it is out there and is not hard to do to have good headlites again

I tried the PlastX the other day and it worked great the difference between the one I didn't clean was clear. Good at getting the haze out of the clear plastic.

I used this stuff by Flynn's called X-cite which I used for polishing the car but one day just hit my headlights and wow it made them look killer.
website Flynn's Detail Products if its not listed e-mail them they are very responsive. I've been using their products and my car has 191,000 miles on it - original paint and it looks brand new. |
