This pt of mine is the first car I've really taken care of. I've had only one other car off the lot, but that year and the next we had water bans, so no excessive washing.
Now, I LOVE my PT Cruiser! I really do. She's in danger of having her paint washed off. But, for the folks (guys) who've loved a lot of cars... this IS a lot of work. Waxing IS fun. But, this is a huge investment for something, that well, really -- doesn't love you back. Anyone have some good war stories to convince me that this is really --- actually a good investment of time? I mean, if I took this good of care with another human, gee I think I'd expect to see them at my death bed, and I'm afraid Baby could - oh the agony - just could be -- (its hard to say) in the junk yard by then... (weep) examining my priorities. and thinkin. |

A car is a terrible investment from a financial standpoint. Very rarely do they appreciate in value, and those that do normally take a very long time to do so.
Having said that, I look at paint care as part of the overall maintenance of a vehicle along with the regularly scheduled mechanical work. We all know that keeping a car as mechanically sound as possible helps to minimize depreciation when it comes time to sell or trade in, but keeping the appearance up to the highest level does much the same thing, but on a more emotional level for the new owner. But I also look at it as a pride of ownership thing. I like my cars to look as good as possible - clean, shiny, no swirls, etc. My engine bay is very clean, and even my wheel wells get cleaned every time I wash the car. The last car I traded in was so clean the dealer asked how I'd managed to put 50,000 miles on it without ever driving it - it looked like it just rolled out of the showroom. After doing some research I had a figure in mind that I wanted the dealer to give me on trade, and they offered $1500 over that number! |

I know of one car that was a solid investment, I detailed it a few weeks ago. a 1970 Hemi Superbird, guy paid $4,000 new, now its worth over $200,000!!!! but for cars made today, your right nothing will make a return like that. as for caring for your car, you should take care of it not only for the fact you look good driving a nice detailed car, but for resale as well. I once detailed a car a person was quoted over $2,000 more than before I detail it from a dealer. if you use my system, you will won't spend all day detailing, plus you will save money. Gary

I get enormous joy from taking care of her. I'm up washing her before 7:00 am on Saturdays and Sundays, and late nights through the week. Always the wheels!
When I do touch ups I use spring water. Which might actually be bad with the minerals - it just comes in those handy bottles. I dyed my hair red to go with my aquamarine cruiser! Its just those dad-gum pits in the paint that multiply everytime I look. I park too far away from people to have accumulated many door dings, but the road is tearing her up. ![]() I will be investigating some of your care products when I get some dough, Mr. Detailer.
