Newbie Asks About Tape Marks On PT Cruiser Bumper

Marks WILL return even after using Armor All. It will leave a residue that is VERY hard to remove. The correct fix is to have it painted or just leave it like it is. There are many PT's out there that have them.

Another newbie here..... I have a 2002 t/e.It just turned over 29k miles. Up until August of this year, it spent most of the time in the garage. Now it's become a daily driver. It seems that since its been out in the sun more, the tape marks started to show.I went to the dealer,and since its out of warranity he basicly just laughed.......It seems to be more on the front bumber than the rear.Up until now I didn't have any problems with this issue,now you can add me to the list with tape marks.....Gee what next?

Yeah, I guess I'll leave it alone, it's been there five years, why not? Just got it paid off and the darn thinkg keeps tearing up.

I have a 2001 that had tape marks on the bumpers... I tried lots of cure all's... The fix that has worked the best... 00 or veryfine steel wool... It might take a little rubbing, but seems to have completly, removed the tape residue, that just would not, go away...

Just wanted to ask if anyone has a problem with acceleration. Sometimes I can hear and feel the motor speeding up and slowing down, even when it's sitting still. I thought maybe it needs spark plugs and wires because it hasn't had any in 5 years.

Use fine grade steel wool and WD40....Spray alot of WD40 on the tape maks and rub gently with the finest grade steel wool...Keep it saturated with WD40 while rubbing...It works

Im guessing yours is a 2001/2002 PT? if it's been 5 years, you're out of luck with the warranty~ I had the same problem with the acceleration/rph issues 3 months ago, and it turns out to be the transmission's computer module that caused my auto tranny get stuck in 2nd gear. I had to pay $355.00 out of my pocket to replace the module, as the government don't cover computerized modules for anything in the car. Since the replacement, I'm running fine.

And I dunno about anyone here, but wasn't there a DIY in getting the computer codes..? I had to pay $90.00 for the diagnosis, when I coulda known about getting the codes myself.

On topic: there's all kinds of tips on getting rid of tape marks--it'd be cool if there's a before/after pics to show for it, and what was done to get rid of it.


edit: I forgot to add that I had spark plugs and fuel injector cleaner and the air filter replaced, thinking that it'll help with the acceleration/rph problems, but showing the engine light to my friend, he realized it's the transmission problem, so once I had the module replaced, the tranny problem disappear. If I were you, I'd get the computer codes FIRST before you go in for replacement/repairs.

Mine is a 2002. I just had the transmission rebuilt which cost $1500. It's still under warranty. I might have to get them to check it before the warranty runs out. It's paid for but the engine is still under warranty with chrysler. I Hope!

I was told that rebuilding the tranny is covered, but anything that's handled by a computer chip, it's gonna be out of your pocket. The goverment dealing with cars and warranty are pretty wonky with what's covered and what's not. sheesh. Not sure if the tranny is part of the engine warranty, but it won't hurt to find out.

back to the tape issue, like i said before.. the bumper paint works famously. i bought black and it gives the bumpers a much sharper look. just make sure u tape up the car good and give it even strokes.
total cost $10 and it looks amazing
