Default Rubber Scuff on Paint

I was on the job yesterday when the Local 361 Pusher came over to me and said "Bro, we got a problem...one of my guys tagged your ride."

DOH!

Well needless to say I was pissed and we walked over to look at the damage...

Black scuff from the center of the Passenger front door to the gas door! the right side looked like it had a tire scuff decal on it. About 1 inche wide by close to 50 inches long!

Matty sez "Bro, I'll cover the cost, just let me know what it is."

Black on Silver Metallic...not pretty...

Seems the guy was backing into the the job and his bumper rubber touched the passenger side.

Took a closer look, no dent, no crease...took a can of WD 40 and a Scott shop towel and sprayed it down and let it sit for a few minutes. The edges wiped away and I could see the clearcoat was not damaged...OK we may have a chance here.

When I got home I took out my Dremel and the buffing pad set it came with and used the bullet nosed buffing pad soaked in WD 40 at about 3500 rpms and slowly worked the scuff in long easy strokes, spraying WD on it every few minutes.

After about 5 minutes it started to peel away and left the clear coat undamaged. Took me about 45 minutes to get it all off.

I then washed it down with Mothers wash and did a coat of Mothers Swirl remover and a top coat of Carnuba with the round buffing pad.

Not a mark to be seen!

Now, should I tell the guy I had to have the side detailed or just settle for a
6 Pack of Bass?

6 pack. I had the wife's new car in Daytona for a NASCAR race. Crazy times in the streets believe me. I pulled into a lane that was empty, but so did a guy two lanes over in an oversize SUV. He hit the front right my my wife's car. I could see blood...mine. But when I got home (without telling the wife), I went to work with every kind of material I had. His hugh oversize tires did all the damage but like yours, only superficially. All the black from his tires came off and to this day she never knew it was hit. She doesn't read any of this either.

Tell him the truth...hopefully, he'll give you something in return for being honest. IF not, at least you did a nice gesture.

I'd be honest - I mean they came and told you. If they had tried to hide it, then I'd sock 'em.
I've used clay bar, but whatever works....

I'd tell him the truth, but ask for something for your investment in time and materials cleaning it. A 6 pack probably wouldn't cut it, but a 12 pack might. . .

Woops, didn't notice the date on this thread, it came up in a search. Sorry for the bump!
