Hey oldcoach,

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you! For some reason I just missed your post here, and I do apologize!

Lets start off with your PT. If the chip is in the simulated wood vinyl, I am afraid their is little that can be done to repair it outside of buying a new piece to replace the damaged portion. With this said, depending on how small the chip is, you may be able to take a brown Crayon, or sharpie pen that is close to the same color as your wood kit, add a little color directly to the damaged area to make it less visible, allow it to sit for about an hour, and then follow up with a coat of Glaze, and Wax over it, and that should make it less visible.

As for the Lanka Kit, I have heard both good, and bad, but based on my personal experiences when I was in Detailing, I would not recommend doing paint touch up on your own! It is very difficult to get it right, and make it come out with good results. Also, it is next to impossible to match your color exactly! Over time, exposure to UV rays, and everyday elements, and other parasitic materials, your paint is completely different than when you bought the car originally. In fact, most Paint & Body Shops would go ahead and re-paint the entire panal just for this reason! If you were to apply a small amount of touch up to a nick on your car, it will usually be either too light, or too dark, and most often will be more noticeable, or even worse than when you started. The two best methods to repair chips, and nicks are to:

1. take it to a Body Shop, and have them repaint, and blend the panel. The reason for repainting the entire panel, is that due to not being able to perfectly match the paint color, the larger the surface you repaint, the harder it is to see the actual color difference.

2. The other great method, and the one I recommend when it comes to paint chip repairs, is to contact a few Dealerships in your area, and talk to the Service Writer. Ask who does their Dealer Paint Touch Up work. Most Dealerships get a lot of scuffs, and scratches from Lot Porters, and sales staff moving vehicles around the lot all the time, as well as many new vehicles can come off of the truck with minor cosmetic defects which occurred during shipping. To repair these defects, most Dealers use a Mobile Air Brush Service who can come out, custom mix the paint on site using special equipment, and have the experience, and knowledge to make repairs that are almost undetectable! These Mobile Services used to cost in the neighborhood of $100.00 to $130.00 to fix every nick, or chip in an entire car! Combine that with the fact that they come to your house, or place of business, and can easily be in, and out in about an hour, and that is by far the easiest way to get professional results!

Also, many Paint Touch Up services sometimes offer PDR, or "Paintless Dent Removal" services as well. This comes in handy with any small shopping cart door dings, or other related types of small imperfections. The cost is comperable to Air Brushing, and again, the price shouls cover the whole car.

So, I hope that gives you a little more insight as to some alternative repair options, and if you have any more questions, please be sure to let me know, and I will try to help any way I can!

Take care!

Candyman
