I had mine go through automatics but ever since I bought the visor I had it hand washed. Same for my shorty antenna im not risking it being ripped off haha.

My PT has never been through a car wash. I'd rather do it myself. Unless its as cold as it was today.

Automatic car washes should not be used unless they are touchless and that is only to get some kind of road grime or salt/saltair off the car. If you want your car's apint to last do not use any automated car wash.
I have used them in the past and paid for it with the end result of my paint job looking like dung!

I would rather it be dirty and then detail it when I have time- ie- flush paint and all cracks with water- wash, clay bar if necessay, polish/glaze, then proceed to a carnuba wax-

The car will look amazing after that.

Your welcome...

hope to convert some automated people to DIY, cause most people don't want to fork out the cash to have a pro do it the right way and someone is capitalizing off that with the automated car washes. The ultimate end result after several years is a crappy looking devalued car.

sorry for the rant-

not all automated washes are bad. the touchless ones are fine like you said.

ive been using touchless and regular DIY wash and my paint is fine. no swarel marks or scratches just dents and small chips from road crap.

and if you use a touchless and with proper detailing (clay, polish, wax) both cars will look pretty much the same. now assuming your using a soft cloth when washing and not the manual brush with soap.

I don't like even touchless car washes. The water is usually recycled and smells like crap, its so burning hot it strips the existing wax right off (not bad if thats what you want), and more often than not it actually leaves the car dirtier than when you started. My experience at least.
