How many use automatic car washes?

I've never trusted them. They seem too harsh on the paint, and besides, I think they'd strip off the wax.
A friend opened his own wash and swears the cloth brushes he uses won't damage paint, and I've seen some of the cars come out with the Simonize/teflon wax. I have to admit, they don't look bad, but I'm still suspicious.

Not on any of my PT's, hand wash ONLY!!! Retired and have the time!

I would think that the "no touch" are OK to use once and a while, but I would never use them all the time.

Maybe 2 or 3 times, at least 10 years ago!
(Retired once; still teaching; not so much extra time; but, it's a good investment in time for your PT's paint)

If you have a light colored car you'll get away with it much longer. 1 use on a black car and you've got a whole lot of repair work to do. I won't use them at all myself. Depends on how anal you are about swirls.

Hand wash myself only... I used to go to a hand wash car wash but sometimes the employees would miss spots or little things that irked me. One time I almost killed one of their employees because he stood on my rear bumper to wash the top of the PT. I went off at that place!! So I just stuck with doing it myself. When you do it this way you know its done right and everything is cleaned up. Automatic car washs are out of the question except for winter time when I go to a touchless car washes only....

I do the drive-thru car washes on occasion....Mostly in the winter or during the summer when I work 7 days and still need the PT clean!
