WOW,Demon thouse are the worst rock chips I have ever seen and I have been doing body and paint since 1972.I would love to here Candymans input on this one but I think you need to paint it from the doors forward, they should be able to blend the colour so it doesnt look bad and have them put a couple of extra coats of clear and maybe even have them put some flex additive like you normally would only be used on the urathane bumpers. We use it on the race car fronts and it really does help but your going to have to keep a bra on it or like that other guy said you could do the clear film if you can find someone that does that in your neck of the woods.if not I think I have a great new bizz idea.lol, good luck and that does really suck cheers,Ray Newton Pteazer.

Hi demon, in the pteazer shop that job would run about $1750.00 -to $2000.00 to do it correctly and it would take five days.I hope that gives you an idea of what to expect.

Hey their demon666,

Sorry for the delayed response. I had a few things come up and am just now catching back up.

Anyways, those are some serious rock chips. Too bad you don't have the ability to click off some better pic's. I originally was looking for an aftermarket paint job that where the prep work had just been done poorly, and the primer was not sanded thoroughly enough leading to the paint not adhering properly causing the paint to flake off easily, but your paint looks at least from what I could tell to be the factory paint, which if this is the case, I am kind of at a bit of a loss as to how, or why it chipped off like that. If rocks produced chips that diameter, especially while driving at any rate of speed, I would think that their should be considerable dings in the body as well like you had been pounded in a good sized hail storm, but instead the paint looks like it just chipped away. Please correct me if I am wrong, but at least from the pic's this appears to be the case.

As for repairing it, I would agree with Ray on if I were going to re-shoot it, I would shoot it from the doors forward using a good flex agent, and put at least 3-4 coats or more of clear. I think they make a clear Poly-Urethane which is the same type of paint they use to paint big rigs, and is extremely durable, and stands up well in all types of weather conditions, as well as excessive use, and abuse which given your road conditions might be a better choice for a clear over the standard Acrylic Urethane Clear that comes from the factory.

As for the cost to re-shoot the front of your PT, Ray is actually on the lower side of the cost spectrum. I can tell you the going rate where I am at to do this type of repair is more in the ballpark of $2700 to $3000 largely due to the higher cost of the newly EPA regulated water based paints, and related materials.

I know this is an expensive fix. As an alternative, my best advice would be to try to find a Mobile Paint Chip Repair Service. Automotive Dealerships, Rental Car Services, and so on often utilize these Services to come out and air brush out paint chips, and scratches in their vehicles. These types of Services most often operate from a small van which is equipped with everything necessary to color match, and air brush out rock chips, and scratches to the point where its extremely hard to see where the damage was. They usually come to your home, or work, and usually charge between $150 - $200 to repair all of the rock chips in the entire vehicle. In this case it might be a slightly higher in cost just because of all the chips involved, but the cost will be nowhere near what it would be to have the front half of the car re-painted for sure! Here is an example of what one of these services.

Mobile Auto Body Paint Touch-Up - Paint Chip, Key Scratch Repair and Air Brush

I did a quick search in Fairbanks, but was unable to find a mobile service listed, however several Dealerships were offering the service so I am confident their is a service available.

Anyways, I would try to locate a service if possible and have them retouch your paint. I would try calling these people first and see if they could direct you to a good Mobile Paint Chip Repair service in the area.

Hi-Tec/Auto Paint & Supply Inc
3501 Lathrop St # F
Fairbanks, AK 99701-7458
(907) 456-8648‎

They should be able to direct you in the right direction however if not, you might try contacting the Service Writer at:

Gene's Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge
3400 Cushman St.
Fairbanks, AK 99701
(907) 452-7117‎

A good Body Shop should be able to direct you to a Service as well if you have already exhausted other efforts to locate a Service.

That is the cheapest way to make your PT look like new, and then utilize your Bra as much as possible when Cruising outside of town, as well as keeping a good distance from Trucks in front of you to avoid being pounded by rocks to minimize the chance at causing more damage in the future. That's my 2 cents at anyway.

Go easy, and let me know if you have any further questions, and I would be happy to try to answer them as best I can.
