Well, over a year later and ours still looks like new, so I'm happy.
Perhaps the kit quality varies?

has anyone tried using the "mothers" buffing ball thing that they sell at all the auto parts stores? I tried the rainx headlight kit and thought it was a piece of crap. Didn't do much for the headlights.

I've used the Mother's ball on my wheels. As far as your headlights go, if you buy and use the 3m Headlight Restoration Kit (going by their directions), you'll get much better results than using other 'cheap' kits. The 3m kit is well worth the cost.

I just worked on my headlights today using the 3M kit and finishing with Meguiar's Plastx cleaner/polish after the rubbing compound that 3M furnished. I had worked on them before using manual sanding - the power sanding with the 3M kit works much better! I've still got a couple of spots to get finalized, but am well pleased with the 3M kit.

Pix: 1314R - right before starting
1315L - left after 500 grit
1319L - left after 800 grit
1320L - left after 3000 grit
1321L - still some frostiness over parking light
1325L - after Meguiar's cleaner/polish
1330ba - Driver's side done - passenger not done.

Meguiar's Plastx cleaner/polish is the Bomb! I used it on my 01 Limited. I used my palm sander which came with a white scuff pad, I let it haze then sander with scuff pad and you could see the difference. then wiped it and applied again this time using the sander with a microfiber towel under it came out beautiful. This will last a couple of months then start to haze again. A friend followed the same process then hit it with a coat of clear, I must say it still looks good. My 08 has clear lens but I still use the Meguiar's Plastx cleaner/polish with a microfiber towel.

We bought a (2001 105k miles) PT Cruiser a couple of weeks ago, and one headlight badly needed to be polished. It looked like the other was new, replaced when crash damage was repaired I guess. Anyway, after doing the first one, the other looked old and yellow!!! So I just did the final three stages on it, starting with the p800 pad. You can see the debris that came off had a yellow tint to it (pic 8 of 9). Now they are both crystal clear. It really works, and didn't take much effort. If it wasn't so darned muggy outside, I could have taken my time and have them looking like new. As is, they look GREAT anyway.

I also "touched up" our 1997 Grand Caravan - they were only hazed near the top. Didn't give them the full treatment as I wanted to make sure I had enough materials for the PT. They still look much better than they did..

yours looks great i got to do mine

CGirl, we should get with some of the local PT'ers around the Carolinas and get us a Tool Time going. I have three kits now for headlight restoration, since I went and made my own pads after using the first set. Be glad to work on yours!
