Question Detailing Question for Candyman

Ok Candayman I did a search but could not find anything on my problem other than painting them. My question is on cleaning/detailing the doors pillars. Mine doors pillars have a hazy oil film look to them except for one that was cleaned with something by the dealer when they relpaced the rubber seal strip between the doors (the rubber strip just fell off one day). Any ideas of what to use to bring these back to the way then looked when they were new other thay painting them which I would prefer not to do as they look to be anodized black and my cruiser is black. Thanks...

Cool Re: Detailing Question for Candyman

If you look in the tips section on each major thread, and the historical threads, you will find a few suggestions.
I remember one about a year ago, specifically about the pillars.
I use a Adams product, "Brilliant Spray Glaze", and it makes mine look great.
I used it on my wife's weathered pillars on her 1993 Grand Marquis last year, and they look like new now.

Hey their Va_Cruiser,

Sorry I missed ya here. The Plastic used in a lot of parts on the PT's are common for secreting an oil which has to do with its chemical composition. The same type of problem will occur if you perfectly detail the inside windows of your PT, and park it for a week. You will see a fine layer of almost like fog all over the windshield, and partly onto the two front side windows due to oil secretion from the materials in the top dash cover vinyl.

1. If you have some Isobutyl (Rubbing Alcohol) then wipe the pillars down to remove the waxy, oily substrate from the surface first.

2. Then you will likely need to remove any oxidation, or imperfections if they have been neglected to regular detailing for any extended period of time. I would recommend using either Meguiar's Scratch X, or even better if you can find some at Pep Boys, or Napa, or your favorite local Auto Parts Store would be Meguiar's Fine Cut Compound.

3. Next I would recommend using a good Hand Glaze. Meguiar's Show Car Glaze is a great product, and is also readily available.

4 Last step would be to follow up with a coat of your favorite was, and your pillars should be back to looking nice, clean, and shiny once again.

If you need any more information on any of the products, or how to use them, please check out my Detailing Guide at the top of this Forum for a full step by step explination of each process in great detail, and as alway, if you need anything else, or run into trouble, I am here, and more than happy to lend a hand anytime.

Go easy,

Candyman
