Default Detailing at the Dealer

Hi Gang, most of you know I have been working with a Lamborghini/Lotus dealership a few miles from my shop. The owner asked me to evaluate his detailing department/chemicals, and staff. What I found out will floor you. The head detailer has little experience, no training, and the chemicals they use are out dated, and of low quality. I asked the lad who had a 2002 Diablo parked in his bay, a few questions. Example > How do you make your decision on what procedure, product to use on a car before doing the work.? He looked at me and said well first I wipe it down with this spray stuff (what's in it I asked?) he didn't know. Then he says he just starts buffing. That was enough for me to hear. I have convinced the owner that I would host a training program for his staff, and put in place a quality line of chemicals, (some of which will be mine ) along with a description to his staff how and what they are used for. If a place that sells $100,000 plus cars puts out this kind of work, you can only imagion what your average dealership does. I would be cautious if you went to a dealer for "enhancement" work, you just might get a face lift you didn't plan on. I see a business opportunity here with other dealerships now, sounds like I have my work cut out for me. [^]

Way to go Gary, sounds like you may be so busy giving classes you won't have time to detail any cars.

Sad but true - you DON'T always get what you pay for! Just be happy that kid at the dealership didn't go to medical school.

I have never bought a new car that didn't already have plenty of swirls caused by the crack detailing crews employed by car dealers.
