Default Chrome Wheels

I was reading the owners manual today noticed that they list products that should not be used on chrome wheels, one of the products was chrome polish. If you can't use chrome polish on chrome wheels what can you use? Doesn't make sense to me.

Chrome polish was the only way to get the rust of my chrome wheels when I bought my new car 2 months ago. It's a shame it won't work on my front sway bar.

From the 2003 Service Manual:

CLEANING
WHEEL AND WHEEL TRIM CARE
All wheels and wheel trim, especially aluminum
and chrome plated, should be cleaned regularly using
mild soap and water to maintain their luster and to
prevent corrosion. Wash them with the same soap
solution recommended for the body of the vehicle.
When cleaning extremely dirty wheels, care must
be taken in the selection of tire and wheel cleaning
chemicals and equipment to prevent damage to the
wheels. Mopart Wheel Treatment or Mopart Chrome
Cleaner is recommended. Any of the “DO NOT USE”
items listed below can damage wheels and wheel
trim.
DO NOT USE:
² Any abrasive cleaner
² Any abrasive cleaning pad (such as steel wool)
or abrasive brush
² Any cleaner that contains an acid which can
react with and discolor the chrome surface. Many
wheel cleaners contain acids that can harm the
wheel surface.
² Oven cleaner
² A car wash that uses carbide-tipped wheel cleaning
brushes or acidic solutions.

Notice it says Chrome Cleaner not Chrome Polish, not sure why chrome polish is a no no, except maybe it's not good for the 'Chrome Clad (Plastic) Wheels'.

Gary?

Thanks IRPT, I suppose I could use good carnauba wax which doesn't have any abrasives. I don't like to just wash them and not put some sort of protection on them. I actually used Mothers chrome polish on my Limited for two and half years without any ill effects.

Thanks again IRPT, I think I will try a couple of local bike shops first and if no luck I will order online.

IRPT/ well put, YOUR HIRED!!!! seriously, I have a wheel chrome polish that will blow your hats off. safe for all finishes, dries fast, and shines like a baby's bottom. If you guys want some, I think I can sell it at 5 bucks a bottle. It is professional grade so be warned, nothing like it retail. Not on my web site, you will have to write it on the form, Gary
