Hello all,
Im hoping someone can help with my new rotors. I was so sick of seeing the rusty hubs of the rotors on my Dream cruiser Series1 that I went out and bought 4 new slotted drilled rotors and new ceramic pads from raybestos. Its only been 5 days and they are as rusted as the factory ones ![]() I thought the coated slotted rotors wern't supposed to rust. How do I clean them and keep them from rusting? |

Don't know about the after market rotors but the standard rotors will rust in just a few minutes after getting any moisture on them. The first time you apply the brakes (while you are moving) it rubs the rust off of the surface that is swept by the pads.
Great metal they are using these days.[:0]

gold member welcome to the forum. I know it's too late now but Power Slot ProStop brake rotors suppose to eliminate the rusty rotor syndrome. Tire Rack carries these http://www.tirerack.com
Power Slot ProStop Brake Rotors Brightly-plated ProStop rotors also eliminate rusty rotor syndrome and enhance the look of custom wheels. Their military spec, cadmium plating adds a high-tech appearance and corrosion resistance.

Dunno why it is, but Michael Day is correct - all rotors I know of rust almost while you watch. First couple of stops and it's gone.
I can't see plating/coating doing anything - it'd be scraped off by the pads. At least the Raybestos ceramic pads will eliminate the black dust - you'll love them, I do!

I have Brembo/KVR cadium plated rotors on my other car. It's the HATS & vents that don't rust, not the part that the pad wear on. On the PT, just tape 'em up and paint 'em. No mo rust...[|)]
