I had someone send me an e mail about a frustrating experience with MR. Clean so I thought it best to post here. The person washed their car with this product and in case you don't know, it works by despersing an oil base chemical on the finish (you know how water and oil don't mix) that is how the water repells. Once they finished they attempted to polish and wax their car. Well, take a guess what happened? It didn't apply properly, the surface because of the oil left behind made the wax just act like a film that would not come off, smudges and greasy was the term he used. If you are just washing your car, the product should be fine. Exposure after a few days will allow the oil to evaperate. But if you plan on doing any follow up after the wash, be warned what could occur. Gary

Thanks for the info although I am usually skeptical of "to good to be true" products anyway.

I have tried the auto dry car wash and thought it worked well, but all I did was wash it. I may try to wax a small section next time I use it to see what happens. Gary I would live to attend one of your clinics some time. I live down by Bloomington so it wouldn't be that much of a drive. Do you have a schedule for your clinics for this summer? What is the cost? Thanks, Tim.

Tommy C, all my clinics, dates times locations, are posted on my web site (www.perfectautofinish.com) the cost varies. I will give you a hint, the ones at Libraries are free, tax dollars are used to pay my fee, and they provide programs to patrons at no cost. Hey, you live by Bloomington? My son is considering Illinois State, we might be visiting some time soon, stay in touch, would love to see you at my clinic. Gary

I guess I am blind cause I didn't see the link in your other posts. Maybe I can make one of the clinics in April.

Mr. Clean, I tried it and liked it.
![]() I did not wax afterwards. [:I] I use different soap too! I couldn't find refills for Mr. Clean. So?? The dispenser (pistol grip) has all the controls (large knobs, easy to use with soapy hands) right there on the grip, one hand, it's great. I don't use the filter spray / dry feature. I have soft water available so no problem. I'd get one just for the Pistol Grip.

I agree with turbomangt...,
I tested the Autodry before it hit the market(I recieve a lot of items for testing from various company's) I tried it out and did not like it, as it is not, in my experience, 100% spot free. The minerals were removed, however, some spoting did occur. If you are marketing to high end collectors and enthusiests, it only matters that there are spots, not the chemical make-up of the spot. After several tries, I still had to go back over with my waffle weave towels to finish drying. At that point I decided, since I still have to dry the car to get the perfection I demand..., the Autodry system was useless in my arsenal of detailing tools. Just to add..., the soap was horrible.

C'mon guys... does anyone seriously think that this item is aimed at the hard core car finish enthusiast or the professional detailer? I think not.
Does it do a good job on the average car? Sure it does. Our 'family' vehicle is a 2004 Nissan Quest, and trust me that thing is huge. I hate washing it and I hate drying it even more. By the time I'm done soaping it up, it has already dried on the side I started on, leaving soap streaks all over it. The Mr. Clean does an excellent job on it (and my 5 year old daily drive Saturn), and now I don't have to dry the stupid van. Excellent!! Quite honestly I can't imagine a "high end collector or enthusiast" really considering this $20 kit from Wal Mart as a something they would use. But for my wifes van? It's perfect!

I think the "point" of the post was that it is not everything it was "hyped-up" to be.
If something is advertised as performing, the price is not the issue. Originally, I heard about the Autodry from a TV commercial. Watching the commercial, I thought GREAT!!! This will make things easy as I watched water immediately disappear from the finish of the car and was totally spotless. Why would I not expect the same performance? What would be the difference if the product was $20 or $100..., it was advertised to do something, which I expected it to do. "IF" it did work as "advertised", it would have been my favorite product in my detailing arsenal. However, after testing, I still had to dry the cars to get a perfectly spotless finish. Point is, it is not everything it was said to be ![]()

Well, I just used this kit today.I was given the thing at the NOPI Nationals last September as a promotion and just now got around to using it.
My feeling overall is that the concept is good, but the execution is not exactly on target. I like the spot-free rinse feature, but that's about it.The soap is inferior, the water pressure coming out of the thing sucks, and it just isn't for someone who wants to get that 'show clean' on their car. I do think this might be the thing if you want a quick wash before you go out on a Friday or Saturday night cruising. As for some people experiencing some spots after it dried fully, I didn't have any.I was surprised because I am on well water here. Anywho, I won't be buying it just for the spot-free rinse since they have that at the local DIY carwash.
