Layering

I have had many a conversations with people that seem to believe that "layering" improves the look and protection of their vehicle. One such product starts with the letter "Z". Here are some thoughts about layering. In an experiment conducted by serious enthusiasts on the East coast, under the same conditions on different vehicles they applied two coats of wax/ two coats of synthetic sealant/ and 9 coats of "Z". Here is the results after 4 weeks fo driving all cars in the same conditions. The protection of the wax was all but gone, The synthetic and the "Z" still had protection. The shine/ gloss/ reflectivity and overall enhancement were comparable. The $100 question is this, "did the 9 coats of "Z" have a thicker barrier on the finish? The answer is NO. Whether you have 9 coats/ 2 coats or 41 coats, the thickness is the same. At some point adding more product becomes redundant. All you are doing is removing the bottom layer and adding a new layer to the top. So all that hard work is unnecessary. Gary

Are you saying two coats of your sealant are better than one? Or is one properly applied coat sufficient?

After the sealant I hit it with a Carnauba wax (no abrasives) just to touch it up every couple of weeks.

Mcruz, ison the right track, although you don't have to top with a wax, it is fine to do so. (just so you continue the program) One coat will last up to six months, but if you want to add another one after 24 hours of the first, that is ok. Gary/ turbojim, you hit the nail right on the head.
