I just read on the General forum about a Cruiser owner that said his brand new car had rust spots. What he is seeing is RAIL DUST. I see this all the time on light color cars. When your car is shipped from the factory, the friction from the steel train wheels against the steel tracks creates micro small RED HOT metal fragments that go into the air, and eventually end up on your car. To the untrained eye it does look like rust. The only thing that will remove it is Clay. So if you see this don't panic, your car is not rusting away. Gary

I bought the Mothers kit. Like you, it was the only way I could fing a clay bar. Worked out great.

bigdogdad,
Go to your search engine and type in clay bars, you'd be suprized at all the hits. I'd rather buy from turbomangt because of all his input to the site but I have one day off this week today and it's snowing but had to buy it to see if it is rail dust. Maybe we can get Gary to package a couple of bars together so we could buy more in bulk. Mothers says you get at least 3 cars from one bar(unless you drop it)[|)]

Hi Gonzo, since I will be out of town for a while, you can get the mothers clay. Just follow directions and use lots of lubrication. (quick detail spray) Don't be afraid to rub with it, the friction of the clay is what will remove the rail dust. My paint cleaner and sealant is a great follow up after the clay process is done. Gary

Hello everyone, just thought I'd share a little dealer info with you.
Most Manufacturers will remove rail dust under warranty , both Ford and GM do, not sure about Dodge, although they do have a fall out removal kit bulletin # 23-69-96. This is because dealers are supposed to "prep" or decontaminate new vehicles before they go on the lot , so if your vehicle is new then you should get this done under warranty. By the way , Gary Kouba is one of the nicest and straightest people I have ever met. Look forwards to seeing you again soon Gary, and buying the steak I owe you. Jim Hammill. |
