What other products have you compared your favorite polish to?
What characteristics about your favorite polish do you like better than other polishes you have tried? What does everyone consider "the best" polish? Why? Just making good conversation on an interesting topic since spring is here ![]() |

Well, my personal favorite had been Zaino. I know Gary has some points of discussion on this product, which he and I discussed on the phone recently. I ordered some microfiber towels from him and he threw in a bottle of his sealer for me to try.
Like I said, I really liked Zaino. I felt it applied and wiped off easier than anything I'd ever used in the past. More importantly, it shined like nothing I'd ever used as well! Only down side....it COST like nothing I'd ever used in the past! Hey, I figured you get what you pay for, right? Apparently I had just never spent quite enough. Well, the car needed a bath over the weekend so it got one. Decided to try out the stuff Gary sent me to see how it compared to Zaino. Let me say again that Zaino, a synthetic, has given me the shiniest shine I'd ever personally put on a car. It went on super easy and came off super easy as well. So, how did Gary's stuff, also a synthetic, compare? Well, at first I didn't think it was applying all that well, but it turned out to be more an issue of "loading" up the applicator before I could get a nice even application. It dries to a much more noticeable haze than Zaino and it seemed to dry a bit quicker as well. It came off pretty easily too. I think the Zaino actually came off a bit easier, but marginally so. Still, Gary's product came off easier than any other commonly available junk I've ever tried. But man, when it came off, did it ever freakin' shine! I tell ya, shine is almost the wrong word.....the car almost looked like it was covered in wet paint! I was amazed, honestly amazed. I had thought Zaino was a quantum leap beyond anything I'd used before and if Gary's sealer was going to be an improvement it would be pretty minimal. But there it was, staring me right in the kisser (with me staring right back at me!) But here's the real kicker - Zaino will run you about $33 for the ZX Flash Cure Accelerator and the Z-2 Polish (8 oz. bottle) combo. You then need to mix the two, which isn't really that big a deal I suppose. Gary's stuff is $10 for the same 8 oz. bottle. One thing I like about Gary too, after having talked to him on the phone, is that he seems like a very straight up guy. We talked about Zaino's claim that "layering" their sealer will give a deeper and deeper shine. Gary believes that is basically a marketing technique to sell more product. He could easily say "hey, layer it man, that's the way to go for the best shine" and sell more product, but he doesn't. I put three coats of Zaino on my car and it didn't shine like a single coat of Gary's. Let me throw in a bit of a disclaimer here: I have no allegiance to Gary whatsoever. It's my car, my time, and my money when it comes to taking care of it. I really, really liked Zaino a lot and told all my car buds about it - said sure, it's pricey, but it's worth it. I tend to be pretty brand loyal; when I find something I like I tend to stay with it. I like to think I'm open minded though and will listen to someone who sounds reasonably intelligent. I also do research and talk to others (which is how I decided on Zaino in the first place) before I lay out my hard earned $$$. Looking at my car now I can't imagine putting anything else on it. |

I have tried Zaino, Klasse, and a bunch of other products, most of them work very well, main difference being cost. Right now I am using Meguiars # 7 polish followed by Gary's sealant and it looks very good. I still follow it up with Pinnacle Souvern every week or two.

I think I've tried every store shelf polish they make and have a box full of them to prove it.[
]Last year I found a polish called Final Detail, It's the best I've ever found and lasts 4 or 5 washes before you have to reapply. The shine makes the paint look 3" deep. I used it on my black Ram first and my brother-in-law thought I repainted my truck. It takes about 20 min to apply with a micro fiber towel and lasts a long time, I'm having wax withdrawls[|)] I use to wax once a week now it's once a month.

I'm with Mike-in-Orange. I've tried lots of stuff but by far Gary's is the easiest to apply and gives the best shine and protection!

I also use nothing but Garys products and yes, I have tried almost everything that is available in the auto supply houses. The biggest things that I enjoy are the how easily that they go on and then wipe off. The biggest thing though is the shine and it just lasts and lasts! Totally satisfied! [?]

Who manufactures "Gary's stuff"? Where does he get it from, or does he make it himself?

What remains unclear is how Gary managed to secure this remaining quantity from NASA, but you can buy it from him at www.perfectautofinish.com. (NOTE: I have no freakin' idea where all that came from......or why my brain is working like this today) |

Mike, after reading your post on "where does it come from" I must also add to that the following. "part of the secret ingredient I use is also used in NASSA's Space program" Ok, now for the serious stuff. I appreciate all the positive comments and words of kind. My mission as I have always stated is NOT the business of selling professional supplies. But to focus on education along with giving people better choices. If you are satisfied with what you are using by all means stick with it. I only started selling stuff becuase of the poeple that attended my clinics. They wanted better choices, and lets face it, the retail line of products doesn't offer quality. To answer one of the questions, in my professional work of detailing, I have tried and used many products, some good, more not. What makes my products unique in my opinion is this, I'm have no allegiance to anyone. Companies are always sending me samples to try, and I eventually try them. I only sell the products that are superior in quality, easy to use, and give the best results. Some products I'm a distributor for, others I private lable under my own name. If I find a better formula, I go with it. That way I don't get stuck on one product. It s all about keeping up with technology. Most of the chemicals companies I deal with can't print a catalog because products are constantly changing. I represent the end user NOT the company, if I like it, I sell it. If I worked for Brand X, all of brand X products would be the best around. Which we all know is not true. I will switch to a better sealant in a heartbeat if I found it, so far, the one I sell is the best I have used. Others will have different opinions, which is fine. But with the kinds of cars I work on second best is never good enough. I can stop selling stuff today and it would not effect my pocketbook. I get satisfaction when I hear how people talk about it when they use it. Thats my motivation. Gary from down in sunny Florida.
