Default removing fine scratch marks from chrome wheels

Hi Gary,

I was not aware that WORKS NO TOUCH CAR WASH meant using brushes on the wheels. I used NO TOUCH CAR WASH place only once over the winter time and have noticed yesterday washing the car, up close fine scratch marks all over the chrome rims.

I have tried Peek, GS27 scratch remover, Polishing compound, and Mothers Chrome polish. I even tried them with high speed orbital tool with buffing wheel on a small section, but no luck.

Do I need a professional detail or wheel finishing help or is there someting I can still try. Scratch marks are only visible under bright light and close inpection, but this is really bugging me.

Any help is greatly appriciated.

Einszett chrome polish or paintwork cleaner works wonders on chrome. For "correction", I would use the paintwork cleaner..., it is amazing on chrome!!

Hi Boosta, I can relate to those frustrating little imperfections that only we notice, because it our own car. Not sure what type of brush/chemicals they are using on the wheels, but I can't imagion it doing that much damage. If you can only see it in the sun or certain light, I'm sure its fine surface scratches. My paint cleaner will work perfect for that situation, which you can find on my web site. Then follow up with a wax or sealer. I bet they are not pre soaking the wheels before the brush gets to it, that's the only reason I can think of which might cause that.

Autopia, Roadfly and MANY other forums have reviews on Einszett products.
Einszett is ISO certified. It is imported from Germany, and IMO..., by far the best polish out there. I have tested 100's of polishes before deciding to go with Einszett.
It is NOT a rebottled, relabeled product. What it is- VERY high quality that will give you a superior shine in less time using less product, as it is very concentrated and a little goes a long way.

Everyone that has tried it has said it is the best they have ever used

Gary, I have used polishing compound and other abrasive compounds so I doubt any paint cleaner will work. Scratches are not deep but unlike paint surface, I can not seem to cut down on chrome to make these marks disappear. I will experiment with rubbling compund and fine 600 grit and higer sandpaper on a small area to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks Gary for your input. Your service on this fourm is much appriciated. waynestowels, I will try that chrome polish sometime.

Thanks,

I would take one wheel off and try it in the back of the wheel first, less noticeable place if you get too aggressive. Gary

Maybe some rouge and a small buffing wheel?

Personally, I would be careful and possibly seek advice from a wheel professional. Some wheels are clearcoated, some are actually chrome plastic cladding permanently bonded over steel or aluminum, while others are real chrome or polished aluminum. You would need to know for sure before proceeding. Many stock wheels now have plastic cladding bonded to the wheels and for all intents and purposes, look like the real thing and according to the car manufacturers, is easier to care for and is more durable in all weather conditions (esp salt states). Using the wrong product could make it worse.
