Default cruddy steering wheel

I didn't use my boat for quite sometime and the wheel I am afraid to touch!! Its bad man. Once black and now kinda black/green and fuzzy. Same kind of material as car steering wheels I think. What do I did to do? Thanks.

Ewwww. Fungus among us. How hard would it be to replace the wheel? I'l look in a junkyard for an older type that had hard (non-porous) plastic so it wouldn't happen again.

The boats about 6 yrs old but the past year it wasn't used much. I am hoping to save it, not that it would cost much for a new one (approx. $45.00) but I am an old cheapo and again hoping that there is a clean/seal situation available.

I hear that!
Okay, so you have nothing to lose: Use dishwasher detergent and scrub it down - that'll kill anything. Let dry. Get rubber coating from Home Depot, etc, like to cover tool handgrips, and "paint" the wheel with it. Hope you can live with black, not sure it comes in colors...

In other words its time to get the dawn out. One more day (Saturday) needed to finish staining the dock and I'll give it a dawning on Sunday. Thanks

you might try a light solution of chlorox and water, just be careful not to drip it on any fabric it will take the color out. The chlorine will kill any mold. Don't make it strong because it might make the steering wheel mushy.

Yeah, a mild chlorox solution should work. My wife would have know that, she is the chlorox queen! Trying to sneek this by her though.
