Default Dawn Wash

In a previous post Sci-Fi mentions a dawn wash. Would this mean washing with a dishwashing liquid like Dawn? I know normally we should never do anything like that since it would remove the wax, but I've also wondered if using a dishwashing liquid would help for that same reason if someone wanted to put polish, paint treatment, etc. down on what at that point would be bare surface. TIA.

Ben

exactly.
it would be used as a stripper to remove any dirt, oils or old wax from the surface proir to using claybar, mild cleaner, and wax/sealant

Dawn is something you wouldn't normally use and I don't recommend using unless you want to strip any wax from your paint to try another wax/synthetic product. If you are going to polish your car to remove any defects or to increase the shine of the paint and then apply a wax/synthetic product, then you don't need to do a dawn wash. Remember Dawn or any dishwashing liquid is very strong and a one time use is ok. As an alternative, after you wash your car (using a car wash product), you can either use a 50/50 alcohol/water mix or Prepsol to remove any wax/synthetic sealant. I don't expect many people to experiment/try new products or change the brand of wax/synthetic they are using and are happy with. So constantly stripping the wax/sealant off your paint isn't normal.

What if you have alcohol stains on your exterior from aftermarket parts that require cleaning with alcohol before applying?

I have install the chrome door handle guards and can't seem to get the alcohol I use to remove oils off. It kept mine looking hazy in those areas?

Just use a paint cleanser (try this first) or swirl mark remover to remove any hazing and bring back the shine. If the polished area ends up looking better than the rest of the car then you may end up polishing the entire car. Then reapply your favorite wax/sealant.
