Years ago I experienced a paint fiasco caused by silicone over spray. Eventually I found a product called Gibbs Brand which is superior in all ways, so WD40 is permanently banned from my garage.

I don't use it on tires but I do on just about everything else, though.

I like Chip.
Reading the ingredients or the hazmat of products helps to decide what to use it for. But I think WD40 is like Ketchup to some that use it.... if you get my meaning?

I am very careful about what goes on tires...many of the fancy advertised tire dressings will leave a coating that eventually accumulates a coating and along with the operating environment turning the tire brownish color. This is very hard to clean off.I doubt "CHIP" washes and details to many of his own rides these days or he would not be using WD40 on the tires.

My tires are often brown. FWIW, I have read that Westley's Bleach-Wite, yes the old white wall cleaner, is good for taking off the residue and making tires "black" again. Haven't tried it yet. Too many actual problems to deal with.

**Not really...in fact not only will it not remove the brownish chemical buildup but it will compound the problem.

Not an opinion by me of a products review........ If you want to strip the tires down use a product called HD A.P.C Purple from Protect-It. This is so strong that the recommended mix is 4:1 for tire cleaning and if you get it on your skin and it is activated with water can cause chemical burning.(see Handy_Cruiser's safety warning to me on another thread about a year or so ago lol) It is completely safe for tires and used by many professional retailers. You do need to dress the tires when cleaned. That is why I recommended the other product for that as well.

I'm a newbie here. Used WD40 as a tire dressing in the mid late 60's.

That and the constant "will they make the deadline" BS is intolerable. At least on Kindig's show he admits they are taking 18+ months to turn those things out.
. I haven't met either one. But it wasn't hard to see that more than show ratings contributed to what I saw in the treatment of the workers. I have worked in those type situations and know the real abusive behavior. I did see the episode in witch Boyd Coddington and his wife call Chip Foose the Devil. Talked pure trash about him competing with him. Foose probably has to much clas to reciprocate.

For the brownish buildup. I have had good results with Awesome cleaner also Ajax ans a brush. The latter I like the best.

I was instructed by the manufacturer (Diamondback) to use Simple Green to clean my whitewalls. I have to say - it has always worked great, so I'll keep using it...

I too am a fan of Chip's work and values. I keep an autographed PT Cruiser in the window here at my office...

(Hmmm - looks like it's time to dust...lol)

Well since this thread has been revived, I'll throw in my 2cents worth.

I've used nothing but Armor All on all my tires since the early 60's.

Pic of my 2002 PT Cruiser , still running the same tires as in this pic and no problems with them.

Heh, heh, actually the tires on all my cars right now are at least 15yrs old except on my 'New' 05 Conv.
