Question Chrome-Painted PT: would I be crazy?

Crazy to think this could actually be a functional automotive finish? I do park the car in my garage every night...

We have a kid in a honda running around our county with a chrome finish. It definitely draws a lot of attention, maybe too much. I wouldn't do it unless you have a show car that only comes out once in awhile.

I find it ironic that the colors red, white, and blue stand for freedom until they are flashing behind you.

Question Re: Chrome-Painted PT: would I be crazy?

Not sure If I would want "chrome" chrome, or one of those colored ones...

before I saw this I was pretty much planning on a large bright silver metalflake, with about 16 clearcoats. But that sort of hot-rod finish is crazy expensive around here - so very much a long-term plan (as right now I have a lot of more pressing destinations for "any spare $20,000" that might show up )...

But somehow this chrome finish looks like it could be "a little less expensive" ??

If I was going to spend some money on an exterior finish on my PT I would not use chrome, I would simply go with the best paint shop I could find (I don't have the tools anymore) and have them spray some House-of-Kolor on it. The top half of my PT now is H-of-K black. It turned out great! This time I would shoot it H-of-K "ROOT BEER" and install a Mr. Mikes buckskin full interior.

Some of you will remember "STALKER"? He is the Russian painter (artist in the truest sense of the word) that shot his PT H of K Candy Apple Red.

Just amazing!

On Topic....

Re: Chrome-Painted PT: would I be crazy?

This was done by someone close to us from a local custom paint& Body about 2 years ago. It is a daily driver and show normal paint chips and such just like any other paint. I have been stuck behind them on the open highway and can tell ya I am supervised that there will not be a VC relating to any vehicle that is completely covered or painted in this fashion. They are a danger to you when the sun reflects off of them at certain times of the day.

The company products used was from Future Chrome.

Ah yes, I forgot about the SUN HAZARD... bad enough off of certain windshields! I guess it's back to saving my pennies for that traditional hot-rod fini$$$h ...

The sun reflection is not just a hazard to other drivers, the sun can reflect off the hood and blind the driver of the chrome car too. Back in the day before advertising was slapped on every square inch of race cars, it was fashionable to paint the hood flat black. The fad even carried over to factory street cars. The Plymouth Roadrunner was one example that came with a flat black hood.

Re: "Chrome-Painted PT: would I be crazy?"
Maybe not "crazy" as in insane, but you would definitely identify yourself as starved for attention because Momma didn't give you enough or feed you breast milk. *LOL!!

*Just kidding..... sort'a.
