Default Bought the bra

I finally bought the full bra and read the threads about a good coat of wax. Is a couple of coats of turbomangts paint sealant the same thing or should I wax over it?[:I]

This is a family forum, be careful talking about Bra's (LOL)Yes, you can apply the sealant under it, what is most important is to remove it every so often. The sun will fade the exposed finish and not the hidden part. So keeping a cycle on and off will keep it the same longer. I have heard of some bra's damaging the finish while on, not sure of what ones these were. maybe someone else can comment.

I was just coming here to get some advice or information if anyone else has had this problem. I have the MOPAR bra for my Cruiser, and it says not to let the bra dry on the car or it could cause fogging. This is true. I only use it on highway trips and last week during a trip I went through a rain storm. I wasn't but half way to where I was going, so I could either leave the bra on and chance the fogging or take it off and chance the paint chips I was trying to avoid. I left it on. When I took it off the next day, I had the fogging. It also says if this occurs to remove the bra and leave it off for a week. My week was up 2 days ago and the fogging is still there. Also it says if this occurs to refer the dealer to Tech Service Bulletin #23-25-00. Has anyone experienced this and does anyone know what this Service Bulletin says?
Thanks for any information. I suppose I'll find out for myself in time.

That is why I suggested to remove it often. You can't win, chips or discolorment. Gary

You may be right Gary, but at this point I think I'd suggest take it off once and leave it off.

Installed Coligan Full bra today. Put on an extra coat of Gary's paint sealant. Man it looks great, with the roof rack , painted mirrors and door pillars really starting to look sharp. Man I just dated myself with that one[?]

R.E, I had the same thing happen to me. I too have a MOPAR bra for my PT. The Bloody thing caused Fogging and I called dealer after dealer and they had no idea what Tech Service Bulletin #23-25-00 was all about. It was frustating. [xx(]I ended up calling California Cruisers and they refered me to a Detailing Shop right next to them. Lucky me they had done work on PTs that had come in for Fogging. Guy mentioned that they were getting a lot of Fogging problems with PTs especially certain colors, Patriot Blue being one! Well took it in and they got to work on it. After about 3 hours they were able to make the fogging less noticeable. I was amazed. They gave me some car wash liquid, wax sealent and some special shampoo for the bra. And again mentioned that I should only use the bra on long trip and take it off as to let the hood breathe/mosturize, as the Detailing Guy put it. Over time the fogging has gone away even more. Hope I was helpful.

Want2Cruise,
Thanks for your input, it gives me hope. Been waiting on it to quit raining here so I can get the Cruiser looking decent before I take it to the dealer. But sounds like they may not know about the Service Bulletin anyway. Thanks again, and welcome to the Forum.

Well I finally got to my Dealer to check on the service bulletin about the fogging. They printed me off a copy. Basically it says it involves removal of fogging or staining condition from any painted surface where moisture may be trapped under the clear coat.

Equipment Required: "Heat Gun"

Procedure: Place a heat gun approximately 4 to 6 inches from the effected area. A target surface temperature of 80 to 95C (180 to 200F) is preferred. Note: DO NOT apply heat aboe 95C (200F) to any plastic parts.

Heat the effected area for approximately 2 to 4 minutes. The amount of time is dependent upon the size and shape of the affected area and the severity of the condition. Circulate the heat gun around the effected area, do not allow heat to be directed at one area for too long, paint damage may occur.

The rest of the story: I spent an afternoon looking for a heat gun but the lowest temperature I could find on one was 500F. So I turned the wife's hairdryer on to the thermometer she uses to check temperatures of food in the oven. Surprisingly, it registered better than 190F. So I tried that. But it was taking too long, what with the small size of the dryer and having to move it all over the hood, I figured it'd take several hours. But I could see it would probably work eventually. What I wound up doing was sticking the nose of the car out from under the car port for several hours each day for 3 days, letting the sun beat down on the hood. The fogging is gone[?]

Needless to say the bra won't be going back on without a GOOD coat of sealant.

And by the way, am I the only one who thinks this "clear coat" invention is more trouble than it's worth?

RE,
Did you have a good coat of wax or sealant on you car before you put the bra on and did you leave the bra on for extended periods? I've used mine left it on for a few days (no Rain), Had gary's paint sealant (2 coats) on no probs.
