[:I]
I just got a new black GT Cruiser about a month ago... After a thorough cleaning the paint felt rough so I clayed it with Mothers clay from a brand new box. Followed all the instuctions and lubed the bar and the surface with lots of the included Showtime detailer. This stuff scratched the S@#$ out of my hood... Now What?????? I really don't want to start shaving (polishing)the layer of clear coat just to fix this. Is it possible that the clay just removed the dealers crappy prep job and those scratches were already there? Any suggestions would be geatly appreciated. |

BlackCruiser, is it possible that you did not wash the car prior to using the clay? That would cause the scratches for sure. It is not enough just using QD spray, you should also dip the clay in soapy water (do not let it soak there however) Rememebr the 3 rules for claying, Lubrication Lubrication and ditto again. Clay can remove 99% of the micro fine particles to prep the car for final deep cleaning/polishing/sealing. But before your start, you must make every attempt to get as much of the surface contaminants off. other things to remember, don't clay in the sun, constantly "KNEED" the clay making a fresh surface as you work, to remove those scratches use a deep cleaner with some polish characteristics. look on my web site for more info. www.perfectautofinish.com Gary

turbomangt... Thank you for your reply.
The car was washed "spotlessly" clean prior to claying and the clay bar and surface were constantly and heavily lubricated. The surface was also cool (car in the garage). I did kneed the clay as you advised. I must have dislodged an imbedded particle and dragged it along the paint [xx(]> At least the surface is smooth now. Is there any type of commercial/over-the-counter hand applied glazes that you would recommend to hide/fill these scratches. TIA |

Without using a buffer, you can try 3-M hand glaze and follow up with a wax/sealant of your choice.
