Is there a way to restore the "new car smell"? I have tried various air fresheners, some of which smell pretty good, but none really smells like "new car". Someone told me that the smell in a new car is actually caused by formaldehide (probably spelled wrong).
Short of preserving my car in formaldehide, is there any way to truly restore the new car smell? Thank you. |

The "new car smell" comes from the outgasing of the dyes, and plastics , and the lubricants used during manufacturing. The products have changed over the years and have improved in quality. These changes have resulted in the "new car smell" not lasting as long as it used to.

But the "breakdown" of the plastics etc, is usually what puts the "haze" on the windshield that you see.

If you have leather seats you could always clean them up with leather cleaner. That gives a nice smell for a few days anyways
