Default Black cars

Is it possible to have and keep a black car free of cobweb style scratches or am I just dreaming... I know that they can be removed but I don't want to be wearing down the clearcoat each time this is done. Black is awesome but what a pain in the #$% to keep it looking good. Also, it seems that DC's clearcoat is more prone to this, (maybe softer) as I have had other black GM products that I cleaned the same way and don't mar like the cruiser does. Any ideas [:I]

Most scratches/swirls/ and blemishes are most often introduced during the wash/drying cycle. Try to hand wash or use a "no touch" wash whenever possible. Using the correct washing pads, (micro fiber/chanille/synthetic lambs wool) will help also. never touch a car without proper lubrication. By that always pre-soak first. Let the soap emulsify the contaminants. Don't use harsh detergents like dish soap. Clay your car at least twice a year (see www.perfectautofinish.com) use a good cleaner/polish prior to final wax/sealing. Use a synthetic sealant like on my web site will last 6 times longer than wax. On drying, stay away from chamois, or terri towels, use ony a waffle weave micro fiber towel, it is the softest most absorbant cloth on the market. my web site has all you need to keep your car swirl free. gary

Gary, Thank you for your reply... I have always been a "shine fanatic" I also use only quality products like MF towels, premium car wash, no automatic car washes, two mit washing (one for upper body and another one for the wheels and rockers. My problem is that I'm too fussy.
To the average person my car looks flawless, but from a foot away under certain lighting the car looks like it was washed with a scouring pad. The car has been clayed which freaked me out as it exposed all scratches from the dealers poor prep job. They just waxed it prior to delivery so it looked great until it's first wash. I could post Pictures but you guys would say what's the problem, in pictures it also looks flawless. Maybe I have to just relax a bit[:I]

I have two black cars. An 01 Cruiser and an 05 ML350 Mercedes. I use Zaino Brothers Show Car Lok followed by Zaino Brothers Z5 Show Car Polish. The Z5 is great for red and black cars that have a tendency to show swirls. You can also follow this with a coat of Maguires new NXT Tech Wax to get a super show car finish. The NXT wax is also great for covering up swirls.

Jerry, I use the NXT and it is a great product... Makes the car look awesome to the less fussy types [8D]. But in the direct sun and under certain lighting conditions I see cobwebs . I know that one can polish these out and bring me to the land of swirls. [:0] Is there really a land of paradise out there for black cars? Or am I just chasing rainbows and I should just get over it. [V] (By the way, Nice choice of cars.)

Blackcruiser,

Want to get rid of 99% of your swirls? Then like Gary said start with a good claybar. Then go with theZaino Brothers Show Car Lok followed by their Z5 polish. The Z5 is specially formulated to hide/reduce the swirl problems on black and red cars. Here's their URL http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

Black cars are harder to maintain. Would suggest using Meguiar's Professional Hand Polish (M-8132) or Professional Swirl Free Polish (M-8232) or 3M Swirl Mark Remover (39009) to remove your cobwebs. For the roof, hood, and trunk, polish front to rear (not in circles), and the sides up and down. If you own a Porter Cable Random Orbit Polisher (#7424 or 7336) or a Cylo Random Orbit Polisher, use that instead with a white (polishing pad) since it will not introduce swirls or holograms to your paint or burn your paint and makes it easier on you and saves time. Wash and check your work. When you are satisfied with the condition of your paint, apply your favorite wax. Of course you could find and pay a good detailer to remove the defects.
