Default Protective coating?

There is some kind of plastic or waxy substance that is near the wiper nozzle and the top of the car. When I first took the car home, I thought it was just leftover wax. But after a few washes and carefully looking at it, it appears to be some kind of waxy or plastic coating of some sort. When I mentioned it to the dealer, they said it was a protective coating. They said they can reapply the paint sealant/protectant if I think it is necessary. The only thing is, if it IS the sealant/protectant, should I be concerned that some parts are off?

What it looks like is if the car was wrapped in plastic wrap or something and as they removed it, some of it didn't come off. Or maybe it had some kind of plastic covering that when they removed it, not all of the gummy substance came off. Is that possible?

Should I remove what's left and just have the dealer reapply it sealant/protectant?

I'm kinda leaning your way of thinking on the "plastic coating" that one sees on the car when delivered to the dealer. If dealer prep charges were applied to your sale, then they should clean that crap off and re-seal it at no charge to you. After all, they didn't do their job correnctly in the first place. Good luck.

What bigdogdad said! The dealer didn't do their job.
