Gang,
Seen a lot of Cruisers and Chryslers in general with serious door pillar fading/streaking. My friend's Cruiser looks like gasoline has been streaked all over the black pillar. Any cures? Thanks. |

If its the rubber vinyl area thats fading. I took some armorol sprayed it on a cloth and rubbed it in. That helped a little bit I think continous applications will remedy it but I haven't put the time in yet to fix this. And make sure its a low gloss armorol. And I might be totally wrong so please correct me Gary.

the door pillars are probably the worst (cosmetic) part of the cruiser. Hard to keep looking good, given to mass fingerprints, etc. Looked at the chrome covers, but they seem to "float" instead of fit nicely with the rest of the car. Would love to hear some solutions for these pillars! Also, would love to see some pix of people who had them painted to match the car!

Their was a tech bulletin posted by Chrysler on this exact subject. If I can find it I will post it. I had mine painted and I love it.. However you shouod be able to keep them looking good if you use a paint cleaner first, (mine or Meguiars has one thats ok) That will clean up the residue if it is discolored already. After that just use a wax or sealant to finish up. I think some car wash detergent is so strong that it can really mess those pillars up. That is why you have to keep after them with regular maintenence. Gary

Yep, I was right, I just found the post about the pillars and it is the result of harsh car wash soap>
"September 23, 2002 -A bulletin has been released from DaimlerChrysler that addresses the discoloration of B- and C-pillar door appliques on PT Cruisers This discoloration, which may appear as a brown haze or iridescent blue spots, is the result of car wash phosphates coming into contact with the appliques." They also recommened the same solution I just posted to correct the problem> [^]
