Yesterday I got a red GMC Jimmy with serious oxidation. Most people don't realize that oxidation can occur with today's modern finishes. This is a perfect example of when using a buffer is absolutely necessary. what I did after the normal prepping/wash, clay. I did use my deep cleaner next by hand but that did not cut enough. I decided to go with the dual action cyclo buffer with a cuttng compound. This machine is amazing. Cuts right though the oxidation leaving the surface ready for the polishing step. I changed pads from yellow (cutting) to green (polishing) on the cyclo and used a pure polish next. It brought back that "POP" I like to see similar to a new car. Finished with my sealant and the car was good to go. One bad thing, I forgot my camera.[xx(]

I am sure we would all like have a great detailer like you in our area. It seems like when you take your car to a detailer here they don't do their own work, it ends up in the hands of someone who doesn't speak english and was mowing lawns just last week. I got my car (not the PT) back with wax or polish splatter on my convertable top and not really "detailed" at all. I didn't notice it till the next day so I have to take it back again to get the splatter off. I didn't feel like leaving it again for the "detailing".

Jimbo, the truth is most professional chemicals companies make enough compounds to make your head spin. Rule of thumb to remember is this. Compounds should NOT be applied by hand,(Unless they are a mild form like a paint cleaner)or You will surely damage your clear coat. Compounds are designed to break down under the heat of the buffer. You can tell the aggressiveness of the compound by the grit. Paint cleaners are a mild form of compound that can be worked by hand. To confuse you more, some cleaners have polish in them. (like mine). In general compounds used correctly with a buffer will level the paint while removing some imperfections. You need to follow up with a polish after using a compound to restore the finish. Hope that helps. For easy to follow procedures on detailing, see my web site. Gary

Cal, that is one reason why I dedicated myself in my business to quality detailing, along with education. YOu are right, most detailers cut grass in the morning and detail in the afternoon. Their has been no standard up until now. I helped form a site that people can log into, click on a state and find a qualified detailer near them. (www.detailersassociation.com)little by little respect will return to this industry.

What a great resource that site will be. Too bad that the 2 listed in AZ do not have working websites. I will have to look them up in that dusty yellow book thingy. So, if the detailer is on the site, they should be worth their salt right?

We have just updated the web site and I must have mis typed some of the URL's.
Here is the correct url for Jay Fawcett. www.jesterdetail.com. I have e-mailed Ryan at Stewarts Detailing, once I have his correct info I will place it here for you. Of course , you could always pay Gary mileage to come down and detail your cruiser for you ! Anything else I can do to help, please feel free to e-mail me at jhammill@detailersassociation.com.
