When I returned from my trip and I had a message from a business realitor. I was caught by suprise when I talked to him on the phone. It seems that a client if his wants to buy my business for a great deal of money. (to me it was anyway) considering my shop is leased, and I have less than 5 grand in equiptment. What he sees as a value (which is what I targeted from the beginning) is the focus on quality detailing and consumer education. He already knows Perfect Auto Finish has the reputaion (the Oprah show sure didn't hurt any)and he wants to run with the concepts in put in place. I talked to my wife on this and we decided if I did sell out I would be giving away all my dreams/thoughts and ideas to someone else. This is my passion, and live for detailing, and helping people take care of their cars. No amount of money can replace that. So I refused. Either I'm crazy, or I want to live out my dreams. Maybe a little of both. Gary

Gary, I think you made the right choice. The way I see it, Perfect Auto Finish is a great company because it has a great personal care for its customers, great attention to detail (no pun intended), and a strong desire to educate people on truly the best way to take car of their prized possesions - their cars.
That did not happen because a group of very special people got together and decided to run a business that way. It happened because one man has the attitude and personality to make it that way. If the business is sold, and that one man is gone, then he takes with him the driving force, the attitude, the passion. What's left is an auto detail shop with no heart, no soul. Big whoop. I thank you, and my cars thank you, for standing by your dream and passion. |

Very well said, Mike. [|)] IMHO, if turbomangt sold his dream business before he was ready to retire he would probably regret it and not be happy. Sometimes there are more important things in life than making a big profit on an investment especially when it is so much a part of you. |

I think you are very lucky Gary. There aren't that many
people in this world that are doing what they love to do. I know I'm not.I agree with Gary04GT if you retired before you were ready you would regret it.Anyway I for one am glad you decided to stick around. I planning to come take a couple classes from you in 06.So don't leave. Now if you wanted to move your shop to Nebraska, that would be OK with me ![]() ![]() ![]()

Gary,
I agree with what has already been said, the business has value because of you and your values/work ethic. That business value can only increase with time as more and more people become aware of you and your services/products. You made the right choice, when you do decide to get out your business will be worth a whole lot more. Thanks for what you do. |

Turbomangt,
In the near future "you" can sell your own franchises. You sell them with the conditions that you are involved and would inspect yearly to make sure that they are following your conditions. They would also be made to attend your classes on a re-occuring bases. You the one in charge and your the one to set the rules. It is do-able. |

Hey, turbomangt, remember what I told you a year ago:
McDonald's started out as a small business and look where it is today...everywhere!!! [^] [8D] [?] ![]() Just keep me in mind for your Pacific Northwest Franchise as I might just consider "leaving" retirement. [8] |

Wow you got offered money to sell your business.
I wonder what would happen if you had...... PT cruisers everywhere would be wondering around, dirty and unclean, with no professional detail products to use on them Owners would be careless about there cars Swirls marks would be the "Next Big Thing" because there would be so many you would want to shake a stick at them Chrome wheels would look like they were painted black (no Im not talking about the Rolling Stones) Leather would rip your paints because it is soo cracked and brittle Chrome would actually be replace with stainless steel because the chrome rusted Steering wheels would be metal rods because the leather rotted off Basically it would be a harse world for a car. Cars would learn to turn them selves on and drive away to escape the torture.
