Most scratches are deep into the paint and require touch-up or complete re-painting. I will concentrate on 1000-600 grit, medium depth scratches that are in the top coat or clear coat, but do not respond to 2000 grit swirl removers. Paint levelers will also greatly improve deep scratches by wearing down the edge, making a scratch less noticible.
Due to the evolution of modern paints, old fashioned compounds are no longer the preferred method of scratch removal. They often leave more damage than they remove. I prefer to use paint levelers. These new formulas contain heat reducing abrasives that flatten under high heat. This is why I recommend applying these products" with high-speed rotary polishers. Orbitals do not produce heat, so the effectivness of a leveler is greatly reduced. Always contact a professional before attempting to do it yourself. For more info visit www.perfectautofinish.com |
