Unhappy PT Radio problem

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the site but would appreciate some help.
I had some work done on the ignition (lock jammed so moved to a supplementary switch). Radio stopped working. Bought a used radio, all connections made and checked but no display to enable me to put CODE in (tried 3 radios - same result). If I remove the tiny plug-in (top right corner as seen from radio back - 1 wire and loose connection of plug to wire), the radio lights up with CODE. Put in (correct)code but not accepted (says REPEAT then after 3 goes WAIT - for half-hour)
Anyone know what that little connector is for?
Also, CODE comes up when the on/off switch is in the OFF position, not ON - seems odd.

the little connector beside the big main one i believe is for a cd changer it dont need to be plugged in for the radio to work.
,
on the big plug check for voltage on the 2 purple wires , with ignition turned off, should have battery voltage
then check that you have voltage to the red wire with a white tracer this one should have power with ignition turned on,

You responded to a 5+ year old thread, and while your advice may help someone in the future, the OP to this thread hasn't been back on the forum since 03/12

I still appreciate the answer. It helps when using the search not having to bounce from thread to thread to find the one with the answer

That's why I said it may help someone in the future, nothing wrong with that, just like no question is a stupid question
