hello all, new here so please be gentle hehehh
recently bought 2002 pr cruzer, 2.2 crd motor, but now having slight issue and wonder if anyone here could help? problem that i have is no matter if engine cold or hot, it turns over but it doesnt fire up. The only way to start engine is to use quick spray of easy start. Engine fires up and runs ok until you have to start engine again. There are no fault codes as mechanic scaned it several times by now. Please help. Thanks you all ![]() |

How long has it been doing it?
Diesels have various ways to assist cold starts- Glow plugs, Grid heaters Ether systems It helps to 'plug-in' the engine with a block heater when it gets cold I don't know anything about the Euro diesel, eventhough they were made a very short distance from where I live they were ALL exported. Diesels will generally start without assistance when they are hot- If compression is low, engine will require cold weather procedures in all temperatures. Check glow plug electrical system, if it has one, first. Chromenut has info on the 'FSM' or google 'fsm pt cruiser download' and look for pdftown

hello mate, thanks for yr time in replying. Yesyou are rite, they should start easy when cold as common rail system has high compression and glow plugs only kick in for mili seconds.
Glow plugs checked, power does reach them, also all glow plugs working. No fault codes recerded, and also engine temp sensor gives correct reading ie not -40 or + 110 to affect starting. is there anything common on these cars related to this issue? regards |

Any follow up on this problem?
A little bit of advice, I wouldn't be using too much 'Easy start' as the engine becomes more dependent on it (as silly as it may sound). Also had a Mercedes years ago with a similar problem, it turned out that the seals in the pump had perished and they were the problem (pulling in air) |

Strange. Mine doesn't start below -2 Celsius - haven't solved that one either...
Remember this is a Mercedes diesel (M611 I think), anyway it's the same as the 220cdi so try a cross search with Mercedes owners, perhaps that'll turn up some solutions
