Hello
I've had issues with my 2002 2.2 diesel rough idling since before Christmas. It's worse when cold and doesn't always happen. Driving was ok apart from smoking when accelerating. An injector was leaking so I took it to a local RAC approved garage who fixed this. But it had no effect on the idling. I took the car back to the garage and suggested the EGR valve was sticking. They did a compression test and found two cylinders were very low. After some debate I agreed to an engine rebuild which they did. Decided better to spend money on a car I know rather than buy something else with a set of new problems... plus I couldn't bear to scrap Petie... Car is still rough idling. Driving is excellent and there isn't any smoke when accelerating. I have no money left after the rebuild to have any more work done!! Any suggestions? Should I live with it for now? How easy is it to get to the EGR valve to clean it? i.e. is it a DIY job? Could it be something else? Thanks Michael |

Have you tried an injector cleaner and cetane booster?

Thanks Gold2006, no I have tried injector cleaner or octane booster. I'll get some.
Thanks reaper, I'd have hoped the garage would have checked the turbo hose when they refitted it! I'll check it. My PT is worse than before the garage rebuilt the engine! There weren't any engine codes recorded before the engine rebuild so I checked them again last night... P0201, P0202 and P0204 are now recorded. These are injector wiring faults. The engine management light isn't on. A quick bit of research says if the light is off then the codes are historical. Best regards Michael |

SwindonCruiser, I had the same issue about a month ago. After some fiddling and frustration found the culprit to be a sticky diesel pressure regulator. Located on the side of the fuel rail. Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Injector cleaner made no difference - I ran it for 300 miles. Codes didn't go away. They became random. Sometimes P0201, P0202 and P0204 another time only P0201 and P0204 etc. Took him back to the garage and they have fitted refurbished injectors and all is ok now ![]() He idles and runs better than when I bought him ![]() I've spent far more on this than logic says I should, but I couldn't scap a PT Cruiser! Best regards Michael |
