Question Diesel clutch prices! are they having a laugh?

So still not got a CRD 2006 or newer but I've been looking at the prices of parts and they are ridiculous.
BUT luckily the CRD engine is Mercedes and there are lots of them out there and lots of competition in the market place.
A full Dual Mass clutch set(DMF) for the PT from Eurocarparts comes in at nearly 700
That must mean with the average car price now at around 1000 the car is a wright-off.
But stop me if I'm wrong! both the MK1 and MK2 use the same clutch. It "appears" to me that the Sprinter van has the same clutch and a single mass version(SMF) is available for under 170 complete.
What can anyone else contribute to my thoughts on this?
