Diesel injector bolt threads.

Default Diesel injector bolt threads.

I've seen a few cars for sale now that are "Spares or Repairs" because they have thrown an injector out and the holding bolts thread has gone.

Not owning a CRD I'm wondering is there anything stopping you from just going one size up on the securing bolts? As they can be helicoiled by the looks of things I would have thought not???????
In the UK looking for a 2006 or newer CRD!

When I changed my injectors a couple of years ago I bought (from ebay,natch) some repair kits for this very problem, I think I had one that stripped on removal and a new OEM bolt couldn't be used. The kit included a short replacement bolt and helicoil with instructions to use certain size tap and just screw it in, it was quite clear to understand and easy to do and I replaced all 4 injectors without problem.

The kits at the time were 25 per stud (2014) and I've since covered 25k miles without problem. Also had to buy tools for injector removing (slide hammer and attachments) and for seat recutting which I could probably have gotten away without doing.

I had a problem with a couple of injector seals leaking and one of the injector securing bolts broke as I was tightening it. A local guy who specialises in broken studs and bolts came round the next morning and for 80 he drilled out the old bolt, helicoiled the hole and drilled out the mounting yoke , allowing me to fit a larger bolt. Apparently broken injector mounting bolts are an ongoing issue on Mercedes diesel engines and this method is an accepted repair.
