Hi, Can anyone tell me the difference between the petrol and diesel radiator fans. The fan motors are supposedly the same, the fan blades look identical as does the fan shroud. I need to replace my radiator fan and am getting nowhere fast, I cannot locate a fan for my 2.2crd. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

He doesn't need a radiator, Rick, just the fans. Can you hook him up?

Shroud depends on the year - Mk1 CRD is different to Mk2. Fan itself, is the same on a Mk2 CRD as a Mk1 2 ltr petrol. That I know for sure. The bit that definitely IS the same across all models is the motor - which is the important bit. Any fan assembly you buy, from any model / year, the motor is a straight swap (electric connections included) - and it's a 5 minute job. You'll need a 5mm blade flat screwdriver and a 10mm socket. Take the fan assembly off the car, knock the old penny sized clip off using the screwdriver, undo 3 self tap bolts, swap, reverse - done. If all you can find is a SH one and it only has one speed, usually it's one set of brushes worn out. Strip the SH motor and your old one apart - bendy tabs around the outside - and mix n match the brushes. reassemble and you're good to go. PS: I noticed that there doesn't seem to be any fan assemblies on eBay or Amazon in Europe at the moment...? I ended up doing the "mix n match" overhaul and it works fine.

Hello,
Thank you for your replies, I haven't been about as I have been waylaid and generally bogged down with things. I will get my Vin no. and see what can be done, thanks for the offer of help. I had thought about replacing the motor or even swapping out the carbon brushes as suggested. I had also heard that getting the electric motor out can be tricky and thought I would try to replace the shroud as a whole if possible. It does seem that getting this part in the UK is a trial in itself. My car is 2005, pre facelift crd, 121 bhp. Thank you for taking the time to help. Richard(Mulder66) |

If you have never pulled the Build Sheet for your PT, you can go to this website and get it: https://www.dodge.com/webselfservice/dodge/index.html In the left-hand column click on YOUR VEHICLE click on Equipment Listing Then on the next page that loads, enter the VIN in the white box in the middle and click the red Search box. That will be the Build Sheet for your PT that will show everything that came on it when it was built. ![]() |

Changing the brushes out will take another 5-10 minutes. Somewhere or other I did a bit of a write up "how to" on removing the radiator(s) in a CRD which might help you - it's the same for your Mk1 as it is for my Mk2

Hi rckstein,
Thanks for the link, I have been to the site and downloaded my build sheet. I could not see any reference to the cooling system etc, but am able to confirm that it is a 2005 build for export to Europe and the diesel crd touring. Cheers Richard |
