Door Spears How are they mounted?

I was wondering how the "Door Spears" are mounted on my 2001 Limited. can the be removed? I would like to run without them. I think they may take away from my Running Boards.

Also, I once seen that some had posted the complete Factory Service Manual online. Where could I download it?

the door spears are attached with double sided tape. they are easy to remove, id suggest a nylon pry tool to avoid scratching the paint. to remove the adhesive left from them after removal, 3M makes an adhesive remover that softens the tape enough to just roll it off.

Does anyone have a pic of a car without them. I think I saw a Cruiser that had none the other day in passing. WOnder if anyone makes a flat Stainless steel insert to replace them with. I am not sure I like the bulge look they give. thanks, bob

Yes, they do make a flat polished stainlees steel bar that replaces the door spear. (Old Pictures)

If you want to see a PT without spears, look at a 2008 Lx (base) or Touring, they come spearless now.
Street Cruiser package gets you the chrome spears.
Maggie's the place to go for the flat SS Spears.

Yes, you can pull off the spears on your PT. There're held on with double sided tape. You'll have to get rid of the glue residue left over after you take the spears off and then bring the paint back to a shine.

I read somewhere that dental floss is good to remove mouldings that are held on with double sided tape. Should I heat the mouldings at all. Would like to preserve the spears for later use maybe. Are the flat SS spears very thick. Do they install easily? I think this wil be a good move for me.

Dental floss or wooden flat picks that won't damage the paint. If you use heat (hair dryer) be careful of too much heat.

The SS flat spears are pretty thick, about 3/16th- 1/4 inch and go on the same way as the original spears, double sided tape.

Thanks Crewzin for all the help. Spring is on the way and I'm trying to get some stuff done. Runing boards and Lower grille housing should go to the paint shop next week. I just sent a note to Lee at E&G requesting a copy of the install manual for the Continental Kit. The stainless insert in the center needs removing and maybe replacing. Still havent figured out what to recover the running boards with. Someone mentioned using the Rhino coating like they use on Pickups Not sure yet. I really like the car and want make her really clean. Thanks for the help
